Bord Gais Network Services Building: Double RIAI Award Winner and also BREEAM Certified Excellent.

The Bord Gáis Networks Services Centre by Denis Byrne Architects and a House Extension in Dublin’s Portobello by Donal Colfer Architects were winners in the 2013 Irish Concrete Society Awards. The awards were presented for Best Commercial Building and for Best Sustainable Building.

Bord Gais is also the first building of its type ever and so far the only one in Ireland to have achieved the ‘Excellent’ BREEAM standard. This will be the benchmark for all other sustainable buildings in Ireland in the future.

The Bord Gáis Networks Services Centre by Denis Byrne Architects won the ‘Building Award’ and received a ‘Sustainability Commendation’. It was chosen from a total of 15 buildings entered. The Jury said: “In the Design of the Networks Service Centre, Bord Gáis set out to achieve a development that demonstrated their commitment to environmental protection, energy conservation and sustainability. It is fair to say that this goal was truly achieved in the Design and Construction of this fine project.”

The building design promotes an integrated sustainable design approach.  It combines Microclimate, Biodiversity and Landscape, Water Management and use of Renewable Energy Technologies. The compact building features a low energy design concept that establishes a service facility with a high quality and permeable work environment.
