Cisco Systems is the worldwide leader in networking solutions for the Internet. Their hardware, software, and services are used to create internet business solutions that allow individuals, companies and countries to increase productivity, improve customer satisfaction and strengthen competitive advantage. With over 66,000 employees worldwide and revenues in excess of $39 billion, Cisco has established a new world-class Research & Development Centre in Galway to strengthen its market position.

Allied was awarded the fit-out of all four floors of the new world-class facility in Galway, which included full height, double glazed framless (mullion free) partitions.  Allied used the latest in frameless firescreen glass technology, Promat Systemglas firescreens, in stairwells on all floors and R&D rooms. The firescreens offered fire performance up to 60 60 minutes integrity and 60 minutes insulation with a glass to glass silicone joint. The interior package included flush finished maple doorsets with rebates to the door frame that allowed the glazing to be siliconed directly into the doorsets, thus enhancing the minimalistic design.

Firescreens
Allied worked with the Architects to provide and develop solutions for firescreens. The Promat Systemglas firescreen, using mullion free glass to glass butt joint technology, was chosen and used throughout the building, this enabled the maximum possible light transmission into the workspace enhancing team work and communication without compromising fire safety standards. The Promat Systemglas is a patented system conforming to BS476: Part 22: 1987 and is unique in providing both insulation and integrity in a butt-jointed system. The 60/60 frameless firescreen uses 25mm thick fire glass that provides an acoustic rating of Rw 41dB AND A 1.5kN per sqM line load.

Where a hidden perimeter frame is required in order to achieve the aesthetics, Allied can provide a completely frameless system. It is possible to dispense with the steel frame profiles and insert the glass directly into the surrounding masonry or concrete substrate. The substrate should be of sufficient mass to ensure it is inherently fire resistant to a level equivalent  to the glass construction. Alternatively, you can use strips of Supalux (20mm to 25mm in thickness)which in turn can be decorated or plaster skimmed after installation. By incorporating the Promat Systemglass firescreens by Allied, the fire performance requirements did not restrict either freedom of design or light penetration within this state of the art facility
