Limerick Institute of Technology’s Thurles campus specialises in Business, Finance, Sport, Environmental Science, Social Sciences and Technology. A purpose built, state of the art strength and conditioning facility (the “SportsLab”) has been developed to support the Institute’s growing Sports Strength and Conditioning programme.
For the foyer and stairs of the new building to successfully work together in creating a clear circulation path for people entering it, the Institute faced the challenge of finding a fire-rated glazing system that satisfied building codes while also supporting transparency and flow of natural daylight.
Allied Workspace provided the solution with the installation of Promat Systemglas frameless 60/60 fire rated glazed screens (integrity and insulation) at the ground floor foyer and first floor corridors of the new building.
Promat Systemglas is fire-tested as a wall assembly, allowing unrestricted amounts of transparent glazing. The product incorporates clear translucent silicone glass-to-glass joints and offers fire-ratings of up to one hour in addition to blocking the transfer of radiant heat, providing essential protection should students need to exit the building during a fire.
Allied has considerable experience and expertise within the Irish educational sector, and has installed Fire Rated Glazing Systems for both new-build and refurbishment projects such as Monaghan VEC and Queen’s University Belfast.
